Nice waffle iron
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This is a nice little unit for the price and is well made. It has a lighted button to indicate when the iron is hot. It does not, however, indicate when the waffle is done. I’ve found the best way to judge the time is to watch the steam. As the steam diminishes, check the waffel, as it will be done or nearly so.
Makes great waffles but has one flaw.
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I bought the Black & Decker WMB500 waffle maker about a year ago and love the way it makes waffles. The biggest plus is that they don’t stick. I spray it once with PAM before I start and never have a sticking problem. I don’t us the indicator light to judge when to take the waffles out. I causes them to cook way too much. I just time them for 2 1/2 minutes and they come out fine.
The one serious flaw is the plastic pieces they use to hold the top and bottom together. They are called Hinge Caps and break after use probably caused by the heat. [...] They want [...] for shipping to the lower 48. I live in Hawaii so they want over $20 to ship them. I ordered 8 and had them shipped for [...] to my sister-in-law in Florida and she mailed them to me for [...]. Now I have enough to last awhile as they break.
my family loves this!

I have long been a fan of thick and fluffy Begian waffles, going out to breakfast on a special occasion to enjoy this favorite treat. Then, on a whim, I purchased “the waffle maker”. I’ll admit, I used it for the first time with great trepidation–how could this little gizmo produce what I was paying good money for in a restaurant? Well, let me tell you–not only does it produce better than restaurant quality waffles that are inexpensive to make, it is super easy to use! Any leftover waffles can be frozen for a quick “pop in the toaster” breakfast at a later time. Now my family and I can enjoy wonderful Belgian waffles any time–in our own home at a fraction of the cost. My only regret is that I didn’t purchase this sooner!
Great for the price

Have been searching for a new waffle maker for almost a year after our Oster broke after 4 yrs of weekly use (pretty good for $9 clearance item). Most units in retail stores are pretty flimsy, including the newer Osters, so that was out. Saw this one, seemed pretty sturdy, and decided to give it a try. It works great.
I came home and looked it up on Amazon. Two things struck me — I paid $10 less, and it only got 2 stars. So I read the reviews to see where the problems lie.
Several reviewers talked about batter overflowing into hinge or handle area. I don’t think this will be a problem. I have a hard time using enough batter to fill out the entire cooking plate, no way this is going to overflow. They must have poured a ton of batter into the unit because it holds a lot.
Also, some reviewers talked about waffles being overdone but I think they are perfect. Browned and slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Perfect. They soften up some with butter and syrup anyway.
I’m sure there are better waffle makers out there if you want to spend twice the money, or more, but this one does a great job for our needs, and at the right price.
Simple and Easy
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have been using this waffle maker for over a year and have no complaints. It was an impulse buy and quite inexpensive (on sale at Kohl’s). I use one ladle full of batter. The waffles are usually crispy outside and soft, yet cooked, inside. I do not find them overdone or burned. If you do, then just set your own timer. I am not giving it 5 stars only because the timer on the machine is not always that accurate.
I just purchased another one for a gift. After the purchase I decided to go online to see what the reviews were and was astonished to see so many negative reviews. This is a compact machine, easy to use, easy to store and easy to clean. I only use it once a week.
Hinge pins broken
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Loved it the first few times. Quickly the plastic hinge pins both broke. I don’t recommend this one.
lasts a few years or so
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
We got this for our wedding (2003) and it has lasted us until this past fall (2008). thats when the hinge broke and the cover on the light broke. over the years it started to not cook the waffle as done when the light would go off so to counteract that i would just leave it in a minute longer after the light went out. my suggestion for the ones who’s hinge broke- be more careful when closing and opening it. it should not make any sounds when you do it, that way you know you were careful. thats how i always treated mine and it lasted 5 years. and for a plastic hinge i think that is pretty good. also when putting the batter in, less is best. i think we put in 1/3 of a cup. then it didn’t over flow, and no outside mess to clean up.
Worse than useless hinge pins; 2 waffles until breakage
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The hinge pins broke on the second waffle. They sell no parts. Cannot find a way to fix it. I figure that makes it about $15 per waffle until it is unsafe and a burn/electrical hazard. I should have avoided this but did not research first. Not many of us research a $30 item. DO NOT BUY unless you have money you do not want.
Okay Waffle maker
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
I recieved this waffle maker as a wedding present. I used it 2-3 times and it worked fine…after that, the waffles always stuck to both sides of the iron. I had to scrap the waffle off with a spatula. Doesn’t work very well.
HORRIBLE!!! DO NOT BUY!!!!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This is the worst waffle maker I have ever owned!! I purchased it on 5/13/08, paid $33.00 for it, and have been trying to make it work ever since. I just thought maybe it needed a break-in period, but I now know it is just a piece of junk.
As per instructions, I am not to use spray oils, only liquid. OK, definitely inconvenient, but I did, and continue to do, as instructed. And the waffles stuck, and continue to stick, every single time unless we cook them so long they are nothing but a crunchy, broken, mess, and it is impossible to clean. I have tried different recipes and different cook times, all with the same result. This is just too much work for a waffle. I do not know what Black & Decker used for a surface, but it is horrible. I am frustrated every time I use it, and I can’t believe with today’s technology they choose to make such an inferior product. There was a day when the Black & Decker name meant quality, but no longer. I absolutely detest spending money on a product that is bad, and I feel completely cheated by them for putting it out on the market. Plus, I am now angry over a stupid waffle maker. I did not even want to give it one star.
Dead after 6 uses

Owned this poor quality waffle maker for a year. Used it 6 times. It burnt out this morning. Dead, Nada, Zippo!
Avoid like the plague!
Pretty Middle of the Road Unit
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
I have had this product for a couple of years and it did a good job. The waffles were good but nothing spectacular. I tried several recipes but the waffles came out pretty much the same. The unit hinges never broke but the non-stick surface has failed completely. The waffles are stuck like crazy glue even after carefully washing and using fresh oil on the grids. I guess I got my moneys worth but this one is headed for the landfill.
Hinge Pins Break!!!!!!
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
My hinge pin broke on one side during second use. I was still able to use to with caution, then within the year the second hinge pin broke, now unable to use. Seems to be a common problem!
Once it breaks, forget it.
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
Well it made good waffles, but one day the hinge pins broke. Black & Decker told me when I called that they do not sell replacement parts for it. I guess they want you to buy a new waffle maker, which I will. But you can bet it won’t be Black & Decker. I don’t care if it’s just a waffle maker or if it’s a car, the company that sells a product must stand behind it or I’m looking elsewhere. And that goes for Black & Decker drills, saws, and other tools as well. I’m done with them.
Belgian Waffle Maker
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I own this product but on choosing a waffle maker for my daughter, I did not consider purchasing another one. I have had it a year, using it about once a month. It sticks and the light doesn’t always work. It does make waffles but I will be purchasing a different one in the near furture.
Complete junk!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Worked fine for about 6 months and then the inner surface failed. I’m not sure precisely what happened but some part of the surface coating wore off and now it’s impossible to make a waffle that doesn’t stick completely to the waffle iron. A complete waste of money!
Doesn’t last
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
I use this every Sunday – the hinges broke after 5-6 uses. I will be buying the Waring Pro next.
Will not last!!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This waffle maker broke at the two hinge pins within one year of purchase. Parts are not available. Top is hinged to bottom with two small plastic caps that are poorly made at best. Unable to repair had to throw it out.
Not as bad as everyone says
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
The first time I used this waffle maker I was very disappointed and regretted the purchase. However, I gave it another chance. The second time I used the recipe that came with the instructions and the waffles turned out great. My husband said they were even better than the ones I used to make. To avoid the waffle breaking when lifting them out, I lift part of the waffle slightly with a knife and slide a round wire rack under it.
YEP< Its the hinge!

Got two waffle makers for Christmas. (the list you know) Really liked this one because it looked nicer and the brand gave it the appearance of being more expensive. We kept the other one, as we like to make a bunch and freeze them, so two would work fine. Well we had a problem with this one right away, and my DH called B&D and they sent us a replacement. The replacement broke, guess where? , at the hinge! So we’ve been using it for the last 6+ months like it is. Am currently shopping Amazon for a professional one like I saw at Costco.
Don’t Buy

The cheap plastic hinges broke after 2 months normal use.
Further, Amazon gives you the run-around trying to return
it.
Great While It Lasted
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
We really enjoyed this waffle maker – until it fell apart. Like some other owners experienced, the plastic hing broke after about 6 months of use. It doesn’t have any variable setting for cooking times, but we got pretty good at figuring out exactly when they were done. Maybe I’ll call B&D and see if they want to replace it….with a power tool (something they are better at).
Buyer beware this is a piece of sh**!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
If I could I would give this item 0 stars. It broke after one usage. If it actually did work I wouldn’t buy it anyway. The plates aren’t removable making it hard to clean.
Broke on the 3rd time
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I received this waffle maker as a Christmas gift and the little plastic hinge/pin that holds the two heavy irons together broke the 3rd time I used it. I spent way too long on hold with the service dept. trying to get a replacement part…I never got through to a human. It is going back to the store and we’re going to try something else.
a great waffle maker for it’s price
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Reading all of the online reviews, we were somewhat skeptical about buying this model. But for the price, we gave it a try at a local walmart (we passed up the cheaper `square’ model since waffles are supposed to be round).
Having made waffles for a couple of weeks, we’ve enjoyed every single one of them. We like our crispy and to the browns side and we’ve figured to take out our waffles after the steam is gone (after the light has gone off).
We’ve used the Albertson brand pancake and waffle mix and it works great. Just follow the directions and measurements and you won’t over fill the platter (we used 2/3 cup for each make and it comes out perfect).
Clean up is a breeze as long as you’ve followed the instructions in the manual and have put a layer of pam or oil on both surfaces (we use fat free pam and it lasts us several batches).
Happy waffling…
Ok If You Like Waffle Wedges
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
I owned a Cusinart Waffle Maker, and it bit the dust. Just stopped heating one day. So I went online and researched the best waffle makers, hoping to buy one I liked as much. Unfortunately, all the research was tossed out when, one waffle-craving day, I bought this model on sale at Wal-Mart. It in no way measures up to by beloved Cusinart. There is only one setting. The light comes on when the waffle is cooked to the machine’s satisfaction. Lifting the waffles out of the appliance is a skill I have not yet mastered, and the waffle breaks into four distinct wedges due to the deep crease dividing the plates. Also, this model has no cord wrap, making it somewhat clumsy to store. But at least I can have waffles now!
PS– I suggest Krusteaz waffle mix.
